Early Life
Anthony Michael Hall was born on Easter Sunday on April 14, 1968, in West Roxbury, a neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts. Hall was the only child of Mercedes Hall, a blues-jazz singer. Mercedes and Hall’s father, Larry, an auto-body shop owner, divorced when Hall was six months old. Hall and his mother relocated to the West Coast when he was three. There, she found work as a featured singer. They moved to New York City a year and a half later where Hall grew up.
Anthony Michael Hall is of Irish and Italian ancestry. He has one half-sister, Mary Chestaro, from his mother’s second marriage to Thomas Chestaro, a show business manager. His sister is a singer under the name Mary C.
Anthony Hall uses the name Anthony instead of Michael. When he entered show business, there was another actor named Michael Hall who was already a member of the Screen Actors Guild. As a result, he transposed his first and middle names.
Hall attended St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s School of New York before moving on to Manhattan’s Professional Children’s School.
